U.S. EPA Research and Activities on Household Air Pollution and Stoves

Resumen de la ponencia:
Household air pollution from solid-fuel stoves is the most significant environmental problem that affects human health worldwide. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting research and activities to address the problem in coordination with a much larger international effort led by the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. This presentation includes: (1) a general overview of EPA activities and organization, (2) background on cookstove research and activities, (3) EPA current cookstove efforts, (4) ISO standards development, (5) capacity building for Regional Testing Centers, and (6) EPA cookstove testing.

Semblanza de la ponente:
Jim Jetter leads efforts at the U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) to improve global human health and the environment through clean cookstoves. Jim’s team is part of a much larger international effort coordinated by the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. Jim is Project Leader for an ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Working Group that is developing laboratory testing standards for cookstoves. He is a registered professional engineer with degrees in mechanical engineering from N.C. State University and environmental engineering from the University of North Carolina. Jim has been actively engaged in cookstove work since 2003.
