Felipe-Barragan-TorresI am biologist of Instituto Tecnológico de Huejutla, Hidalgo in 2001. My thesis is made out in an indigenous community of Altos de Chiapas in the ECOSUR. For five years I went technical of several projects at ECOSUR, in topics as: scientific collections, rescue and conservation hare the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca and patterns diversity of fauna and flora in the Lacandona, Chiapas. In the period 2006-2007 I did the Masters in Natural Resources and Rural Development at ECOSUR, working with bats and terrestrial mammals in fragmented landscapes in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. In 2009 to 2012 I did a PhD in Biological Sciences at the Center for Biological Research of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo (UAEH), with the thesis: ecological and functional diversity of dung beetles (Scarabaeinae) in native vegetation and areas for livestock in different biogeographical scenarios. I did a research stay in the laboratories of Biogeography and Biodiversity of the Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Uomo, dell’Ambiente and Della Natura University of Urbino, Italy. From 2012 to 2014, I did a postdoctoral stay within the project “secondary succession in tropical forests: recovering biodiversity, ecosystem functions and services.” Since 2014 I am a member of SNI in the category of candidate.

My line of research is Global Ecology and Environmental Change, with sublines:

  • Biodiversity: Characterize the biodiversity of different types of ecosystems and the changes resulting from human activities.
  • Ecosystem services: Establish how biodiversity affects ecosystem processes and their relationship with society.
  • Functional Diversity: Integrating information from different taxonomic and functional groups across different spatial scales
